| Shader Ops is a collection of shader plug-ins for Carrara that add functionality to every existing Carrara shader. Apply shaders based on real world coordinates, put an end to the limit of 30 tiles, comment what that formula slider does, and adjust the brightness of any shader. These are just a few of the functions provided by Shader Ops. |
|
|
|
Brightness
1. Brightness will multiply the child shader's color by
the value. |
Clip
1. Clip truncates the child shader's color. The child
shader's color can be no darker than the low value and no brighter
than the high value. |
Compress
1. Compress squashes the child shader's color. |
Fake
Fresnel
1. Rolloff controls how quickly Fake Fresnel goes from
white to black as the surface normal turns away from the camera. |
Invert
Invert has no parameters and simply inverts the child shader's
color. |
Max
Max has no parameters, it mixes two child shaders and takes the
largest of the two values. |
Max Threshold
Max Threshold has no parameters, it returns black or white
depending on the choice Max would make given the same two child
shaders. |
Min
Min has no parameters, it mixes two child shaders and takes the
smallest of the two values. |
Min Threshold
Min Threshold has no parameters, it returns black or white
depending on the choice Min would make given the same two child
shaders. |
Note
Note has a window where you can save notes about your shader. |
Programmable Scale
Programmable Scale has no parameters. There are two sub shaders, the first takes a shader driven off of global or local coordinates. The second shader provides a scaling factor for those coordinates, darker scales it smaller, and lighter scales it larger. |
Radial
Gradient
1. Range controls where the gradient starts and stops.
2. U Start and V Start control where the center of the
gradient is. |
Real UV
1. Size U and Size V set the real world coordinates
that will be used for UV coordinates.
2. Offset U and Offset V set the start point.
3. Plane sets which plane the UV coordinates are projected.
4. Use Space to select which coordinates, Local or Global,
are used to calculate the UV.
5. Rotation twists the UV direction.
6. Odd Lap and Even Lap can be used to offset opposing
rows to achieve a brick like effect. |
Scale
1. Space controls lets you apply the effect in Global or
Local space.
2. X, Y, and Z stretch or squash the shader in
each direction.
|
Stretch
1. Stretch expands the images colors from the low and high
values, adding contrast.
|
Threshold
1. Threshold makes the child shader black or white
depending on what side of the threshold the child shader's value is. |
Translate
1. Space controls lets you apply the effect in Global or
Local space.
2. X, Y, and Z moves the shader in each
direction.
|
UV Repeater
1. Repeat U and Repeat V multiply the number tiles
of the child shader.
|
UV
Shifter
1. Shift U and Shift V slides the UV space in each
direction.

How do I...
Install Shader Ops?
Extract and copy the files to the extensions or plugins directory.
For Carrara 8.1
On the PC, it is the Carrara8\Extensions directory.
If you installed Carrara to the default location, this is
C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\Carrara8\Extensions or C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\Carrara8\Extensions.
On the Mac, OS X.
- Open the Carrara 8 folder.
- Ctrl-click on the Carrara application and select Show Package Contents.
- In the newly opened Finder window, navigate to Contents\MacOS\Extensions.
- Extract the contents of the ZIP and copy them there.
For Carrara 7.2
On the PC, it is the Carrara 7 Pro\Extensions directory.
If you installed Carrara to the default location, this is
C:\Program Files\DAZ\Carrara 7 Pro\Extensions.
On the Mac, OS X.
- Open the Carrara 7 folder.
- Ctrl-click on the Carrara application and select Show Package Contents.
- In the newly opened Finder window, navigate to Contents\MacOS\Extensions.
- Extract the contents of the ZIP and copy them there.
For Carrara 6.2.1
On the PC, it is the Carrara 6 Pro\Extensions directory.
If you installed Carrara to the default location, this is
C:\Program Files\DAZ\Carrara 6 Pro\Extensions.
On the Mac, OS X.
- Open the Carrara 6 folder.
- Ctrl-click on the Carrara application and select Show Package Contents.
- In the newly opened Finder window, navigate to Contents\MacOS\Extensions.
- Extract the contents of the ZIP and copy them there.
Enter my serial number?
After purchasing Shader Ops you will be emailed a serial number. If you
open a scene with Shader Ops or use Shader Ops in a scene, the Enter
Serial Number window will display. Enter your serial number in the
field provided and click OK to continue. Get started with Shader Ops?
Shader Ops shaders work just like Carrara's built in operators. Simply select a Shader Op
from the shader's popup menu and then add a the child shaders.
|
Evaluation Mode
Shader Ops supports an evaluation mode which allows you to try out Shader Ops before purchasing it. When the Shader Ops Enter Serial
Number window is displayed, just click Cancel to go into evaluation mode.
During evaluation mode, Shader Ops will be locked into it's default values. Several ops will not work at all in evaluation mode.

Release Notes
June 08, 2010
- Changed where serial numbers are saved to a more modern OS friendly location. This fixes a problem with saving serial numbers on the 64-bit Windows Carrara when UAC is turned on.
September 27, 2009
- Fixed an issue where Brightness would also dim the alpha when less than 100. Now it will leave the alpha alone if it's white.
- Fixed a bug where Fake Fresnel would use the wrong camera when a different camera was selected in the Batch Queue.
